VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!...Are you looking for a new way to help out the less fortunate in our community?
Is your small group looking for a service project? Hillcrest Ministries
is opening a new thrift store in the old “Strike Market” located on 291
Hwy in Lee’s Summit. All proceeds from the thrift store will be donated
to Hillcrest Ministries transitional housing, The store is scheduled to
open sometime in early April, but is in desperate need of volunteers to
staff the various shifts before it can be up and running. Our church’s
goal is to find at least 5 willing individuals to fill one 4-hourshift
per week. One time volunteer opportunities for groups or individuals are
also available. More information is available at http://hillcrestthriftstore.com/volunteers . Contact Courtney Ng 816-246-2638 or ng.coutrney@yahoo.com if you or your group is
interested in volunteering.
First Presbyterian Church is on Facebook. Please “like” us to keep up with our latest mission projects, announcements, fellowship and more! On your Facebook home page, type First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit in the Search box. So far 135 people “like” our page. Let’s see if we can double that number!
THE WORSHIP ACTION TEAM is looking for volunteers for the coming year to help with greeting, ushering, hospitality, etc. If you are interested or available to help, please fill out one of the gold colored VOLUNTEERS FOR WORSHIP ACTIVITIES cards you will find in the pew pad and drop it in the offering plate, or drop it by the church office. It takes all of us helping in some way to do the ministry of this church. Thanks for your help.
Per Capita means each church member in your household shares in the expenses of presbytery, synod, and General Assembly to support the work of the church. That amount is $32.13 per member for 2011. Thank you, if you have already paid your share of our church’s per capita contribution.
HOSPITALITY Notes...
At First church, we welcome our guests with coffee and a cookie. We connect with each other over a cup of tea and a snack. There are about 45-50 volunteers who help with Saturday prep and Sunday setup and cleanup on a 7 week rotation. And don’t forget the wonderful cookies that are donated!
Help keep the connection going! A sign up sheet is in the Narthex. Won’t you consider volunteering this coming year? And to all the wonderful helpers and volunteer bakers for this year...a great big THANK YOU to all of you.
Prayer Lists and Weekly Calendars
are available each week on the table in the inner Narthex, and on the entry table in the Fellowship Hall. Please take one home.
REMEMBER…
”Favorite Hymn” Sheets are in the pew pads. Please fill them out so that your favorite songs can be added to the list of favorites songs to sing in the Traditional Worship Service. We’ll be singing the favorites in August.
JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER...
The Per Capita rate has increased to $31.00 per person for this year. The envelopes you are receiving reflect the old amount. If you are able to do so, please remit the correct amount. Thank you.
MISSION MATTERS
The Mission Action Team is looking for
volunteers to help with the Hillcrest Transitional Housing apartment
sponsor program and to help with planning a mission trip. If you are
interested please contact either Robert Riley 524-2126 or Susie Wood
554-4720.
GREEN REMINDER...
From the SOCIAL ACTION GROUP...Plant a Tree! Planted so as to cast their shade on strategic parts of a building, trees reduce the need to run air conditioners. Trees trap and absorb airborne pollutants such as dust, ash, pollen and smoke. Trees reduce soil erosion and sedimentation in streams. The top five global-warming polluters are: 1. United States; 2. China;3. Russia; 4. Japan; and 5. U.S. Automobiles.
Safe Sanctuary Policy
In keeping with the church’s Safe Sanctuary Policy, we are asking that children who are in Sunday School stay downstairs with a Sunday School teacher or adult until picked up by a parent or brought upstairs by their teachers or staff. Help us keep our kids safe!
Help Us Maintain Our Church
BUILDING AND GROUNDS UPDATE...FPC has two facility books. Our current book notes maintenance repair needs. We have also added a Facility Attention book. If you feel
some area needs extra care please note the need and give your initials. Both books are kept in the office on the back counter.
Thanks, Building & Grounds Team.
FROM THE FRIENDS OF SOCIAL ACTION… Why Recycle Paper? When paper breaks down in landfills it creates methane, a major greenhouse gas with the global-warming capacity 21 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Manufacturing paper and cardboard products from recycled material not only conserves trees, it also uses up to 50 percent less energy and 90 percent less water than making them from raw materials.
