Who we are
At First, we are called by God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent by Christ
to build faith, bring hope, and share love
as a diverse, growing, grace-giving community.
Our Congregation's History
FPCLS has a deep history in the Lee's Summit community.
1857 – The First Presbyterian Church, originally name the High Grove Church, was organized.
1860 – The First Ebenezer church building was dedicated on land which would become part of Longview Farm. The church resembled the log church which now stands at Missouri Town.
1888 -The congregation approved the building of the Second Ebenezer on a lot bounded by Third and Jefferson Streets.
1923 – The Third Ebenezer was approved because of the need for a larger sanctuary and more CE room. The little, white-frame church was torn down and on the same lot, a larger newer, red brick church was built at a cost of $35,000.
1963 – Land was purchased outside of town for the building of the Fourth Ebenezer. Ground was broken on the new church in 1965 and dedication services were conducted in 1967. The cornerstone from the old Red Brick Church was saved to be placed in the new sanctuary when it was built in the future. This is part of the main building we currently use.
1995 – A Building Committee and a Financial Resource Committee were elected by the congregation to begin work on the Fifth Ebenezer, and construction was completed in 1997. This expanded our church and added the beautiful sanctuary we currently hold our traditional services in, every Sunday at 11AM.
